Composite Doors in Leicester

A composite door looks like painted timber, keeps out draughts and is much harder to force than an old uPVC panel door.

What a composite door is

It is made of several materials pressed together: usually a solid or foam-filled core, a reinforced frame and a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin with a timber-like grain. The result is thicker and heavier than a uPVC panel door, which is why it feels solid, insulates better and does not warp in hot or cold weather.

Security

Look for doors tested to PAS 24 or certified under Secured by Design, the police-backed scheme. Ask about the locks too: an anti-snap cylinder and a multi-point locking system make a real difference.

Styles and colours

There are styles to suit Victorian terraces, 1930s semis and modern houses, with or without glass. Popular colours include anthracite grey, black, dark blue, green and red, often with white or matching frames. Most manufacturers can make the door in a colour on the outside and white inside.

What affects the price

  • Solid core or foam core.
  • Glass panels, side panels and toplights.
  • Hardware: letterbox, knocker, handles and smart locks.
  • Whether the frame needs adapting to an unusual opening.

Prices vary a lot between makes, so it pays to compare like for like. Ask each installer for the brand, the core type and the security certification of the door they are quoting.

Common questions

How long does it take to get a composite door?

Doors are made to measure, so expect a few weeks from the survey. Fitting usually takes half a day.

Can a composite door be painted?

It is not designed to be. The colour is part of the skin and lasts for many years with just a wash.
