Composite doorsFront and back doors that are warmer, stronger and lower-maintenance than old uPVC panel doors.
RepairsMisted glass, broken handles, locks that will not turn or windows that let in draughts.
What to check before you sign
- FENSA or Certass registration. So the installer can certify the work for Building Regulations.
- Energy rating. Windows are rated from A++ down to E. Most good installers now fit A-rated as standard.
- An insurance-backed guarantee. It protects you if the company stops trading.
- A written quote. With the number of windows, frame colour, glass type and what happens to the old frames.
- No pressure selling. A "today only" price is a reason to walk away, not to sign.
Victorian terraces and conservation areas
Many homes in Clarendon Park, Westcotes, Highfields and Stoneygate have bay windows or original sash windows. Good installers can match the look with uPVC or timber sash-style windows, but in a conservation area you should check what is allowed before you order.

Common questions
How much does double glazing cost in Leicester?
It depends mostly on how many windows you have, the frame material and the style. Checkatrade's published cost data for other English cities in October 2026 puts a typical double glazing job at roughly £2,800 to £5,200 on average, with smaller jobs from around £1,600 and larger houses above £7,000. See our price guide for the detail.
Do I need planning permission for new windows?
Usually not. Replacing windows in a house is normally permitted development if the new ones look broadly similar. It is different for listed buildings, flats and some homes in conservation areas, such as parts of Stoneygate or Knighton Village. If you are in one, check with Leicester City Council or your district council before ordering.
What is FENSA and why does it matter?
Replacement windows and doors in England have to meet Building Regulations. Installers registered with a competent person scheme such as FENSA or Certass can self-certify the work, and you get a certificate you will need when you sell the house. Always ask which scheme an installer belongs to.
How long does fitting take?
A typical semi-detached house is usually fitted in one to two days once the windows have been made. Making them to measure normally takes a few weeks from the survey.
My windows are misted. Do I need new frames?
Not always. If the frames are sound, a failed sealed unit can often be replaced on its own, which costs far less. See double glazing repairs.
Is this service really free?
Yes. You do not pay us anything. We pass your request to a local installer, who gives you a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.

It costs nothing and you are not committing to anything. The number of windows and the type of house (terrace, semi, detached, bungalow) are enough for a first price.
